Same Day CEREC Q&A

What is a same-day CEREC crown?

Same-day CEREC® crowns are dental restorations made during a single visit to Cary Smiles. The CEREC system is an advanced milling machine that makes it easy to manufacture custom crowns.

There’s no need for your provider to send digital impressions or other information to a dental laboratory, saving you the hassle of multiple appointments.

Do same-day CEREC crowns look like traditional dental crowns?

The CEREC milling machine crafts beautiful, tooth-colored restorations that mimic the color and light-reflecting properties of your natural enamel. Before designing a custom crown, your Cary Smiles provider takes the time to find the shade of ceramic that matches your surrounding teeth. That ensures your restoration blends in and looks natural.

What are the benefits of same-day CEREC crowns?

Same-day CEREC crowns offer a variety of benefits, including:

  • Easier biting and chewing
  • Improved oral hygiene
  • Improved confidence
  • Reduced risk of oral health problems

Same-day CEREC crowns also save you time. Because they require only one appointment, you don’t have to worry about rearranging your schedule.

What does getting a same-day CEREC crown involve?

Getting a same-day CEREC crown is a quick, outpatient procedure that typically takes two hours or less.

If your Cary Smiles provider determines you’re a candidate, they administer a local anesthetic and take impressions of your tooth. Afterward, they upload your impressions to a computer program and design a crown that fits the unique cusps of your tooth.

When your provider finalizes a design, they upload it to the CEREC machine. The machine uses the design to mill a custom crown from a block of ceramic. When the machine finishes the crown, your provider lines it up with your tooth and bonds it in place.

Are same-day CEREC crowns as durable as traditional crowns?

Yes. The materials used to manufacture CEREC same-day crowns are just as tough and long-lasting as the materials used to create traditional dental crowns. To ensure your CEREC crown stays in good shape, the team at Cary Smiles recommends practicing good oral hygiene.

Brush and floss twice daily and visit the office every six months for an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning. To prevent damage to your crown, avoid bad habits like biting your nails, chewing on hard objects like ice cubes, or opening plastic packaging with your teeth.
